From 2024 - (retired) continuing to occasionally investigate and study contemporary drawing.


January 2000 - 2024 - Visual Artist & Lecturer - studio based practice - original figurative and abstract paintings were installed in 60 curated art exhibitions, including shows in UK, USA, and Europe (see Exhibitions List page / Teaching cv below)

Studio Residencies

  • Cyprus College of Art (Lempa, Paphos, Cyprus) - 2 week 'Artist's short studio visit' (22nd April to 3rd May 2019)
  • Hub Artists (Elevator Building, Baltic Triangle, Liverpool, UK) - 2 month studio residency (November - December 2015)
  • Wolverhampton School of Art (Fine Art Department, Faculty of Arts, University of Wolverhampton, UK) - invited, as an Alumni of the School Of Art, to be participant in a 5 day studio-based painting masterclass workshop; 'Dirty Practice' - Research Initiative (22nd to 26th June 2015) 


Teaching, facilitating & lecturing

Freelance part-time Post-16 Art lecturer, drawing & painting Tutor and Arts Facilitator; artist-talks, painting demonstrations, teaching, lectures and inclusive educational projects that Paul researched, planned and delivered included:

  • Planned and delivered freelance Artist Talks, Painting Demonstrations & Workshops throughout the Midlands and North of England, to numerous art groups, art societies and independent educational initiatives (from 2003 - 2022)
  • Castle Park Arts Centre (Frodsham, Cheshire): planned, demonstrated technique and taught a series of 5 abstract acrylic painting workshops (2021 - 2022)
  • Manchester Art Gallery (Mosley Street): Manchester City Galleries Trust; in collaboration with the Friends team and Curators of the Collection, Paul was invited to research, select works from the MAG Collection, plan, demonstrate art techniques and teach the inaugural series of 4 practical masterclass and art-class events, in the gallery education rooms, to Best Friends and Patrons of Manchester Art Gallery (2010 - 2012)
  • Whitworth Art Gallery: Paul was invited by the Curator of the Historic Collection, to research, select work from the Collection and give a talk on 19th Century techniques of watercolour painting, as part of the Study Day event 'Unstable States: Watercolour today' during the exhibition 'Unstable States: John Ruskin and the Truth about Water' (23rd October 2010)
  • Cornaro Institute / Cyprus College of Art (Larnaca, Cyprus): invited as visiting lecturer to give slide-illustrated lectures to; Art Foundation & Fine Art international undergraduates (28th November 2007 & 4th March 2010)
  • Cyprus College of Art (Lempa, Paphos): invited as visiting lecturer to give a slide-illustrated lecture to; Fine-art international postgraduates (14th March 2007)
  • Salford City Council (Family, Adult & Community Learning Directorate): planned and taught a PCDL funded inclusive art course to an adult community group (Nov - Dec 2007)
  • Turnpike Gallery / Wigan Leisure Culture Trust (Leigh, Greater Manchester): freelance contracted part-time role as the regular drawing & painting tutor. Paul planned, demonstrated, taught and evaluated 86 inclusive, practical art course sessions and workshops, to all levels of adult learners, in various media including; pencils, ink & wash, watercolour, acrylics and mixed-media (2006 - 2013)
  • Touchstones Rochdale Art Gallery: invited to give a slide-illustrated lecture on own work and career at the gallery to Friends of Rochdale Art Gallery (8th August 2006)
  • Nottingham Broxtowe Borough Council: invited to plan and teach 'Indigenous Arts' funded workshops on 'Contemporary landscapes in acrylics' (12th April 2005 & 16th March 2006) 
  • The Art House (Wakefield, West Yorkshire): invited to sit on national exhibition Selection Panel; attended Board development days (at Henry Moore Institute & Yorkshire Sculpture Park); attended regular board meetings as appointed voluntary artists representative on The Art House Board of Management (2004 - 2006)
  • Start Arts Project Manchester (an NHS and Manchester City Council partnership): voluntary student teacher placement; leading to an invitation to plan, teach and evaluate a themed studio project; 'Watercolour landscape', as a visiting artist (2003 - 2004) 
  • Arc Arts Project (Stockport - formally Mind Arts Project): part-time associate artist at Arc studios; planning, demonstrating, facilitating and evaluating various projects, including 'Arts for Life' and 'Inspirations from the past .... techniques & perspectives' (2003 - 2005 and 2009 - 2010)
